Spa Experiences We’ve Loved in the UK, and Why They Work

We’re often asked which spas we recommend.

It’s a fair question, but not a simple one to answer.

Having worked within the industry, and having had the opportunity to judge spa awards, we’ve seen a wide range of spa experiences across the UK. Some are visually impressive, some are beautifully designed, and some simply feel right the moment you walk in.

Rather than create a definitive list of “the best spas”, we prefer to share a handful of experiences that have stood out to us personally and explain why.

Because ultimately, the right spa isn’t about rankings. It’s about finding a place that suits how you relax.

A Quick Note Before We Start

These are not the “top spas in the UK”.

They are simply a selection of spa experiences that have stayed with us for different reasons. Some we return to, some we admire, and some we are still looking forward to visiting.

There are many excellent spas across the country. These just happen to align with how we personally like to switch off.

Nàdarra Spa

One of the most striking spa environments we’ve come across is Nàdarra Spa.

Although we have yet to visit in person, the design and setting alone are enough to place it firmly on our list. It feels bold, immersive, and completely removed from the everyday.

It is a great example of a spa that creates a strong sense of place, which for many people is a key part of switching off.

Best suited for: those looking for something visually and experientially different.

Rudding Park Spa

Rudding Park Spa is one of the most complete spa experiences we have seen in the UK.

It manages to combine high-end design with a strong sense of flow, creating a space that feels both impressive and genuinely usable.

It is visually stunning, but more importantly, it works as an experience from start to finish.

Best suited for: those who enjoy a more premium, design-led spa day.

“For me, a good spa has never been about being flashy or overly corporate. What helps me relax is an unpretentious environment, friendly service that feels genuine rather than intrusive, good facilities, cleanliness, and enough space to simply be. Add a good book and a calm atmosphere, and I’m very happy. The best spas, in my experience, are the ones that make switching off feel effortless rather than forced.”

When is a spa day worth it?

Energise Pentney

Energise Pentney holds a very personal place for us.

Run by Hannah and Tan, it offers something quite different. It is relaxed, welcoming, and genuinely feels like a place where you can let your guard down.

We will openly admit we are biased here, but it is also a great reminder that a spa does not need scale or complexity to be effective. What energise has is exceptional facilities, bags of character and a team that truly cares.

Sometimes, it is the human element that makes all the difference.

Best suited for: those who value warmth, simplicity, and a more personal experience.

The Swan Hotel & Spa

The Swan is one we return to time and again. I would highly recommend booking one of their wonderful suits.

It offers a smaller, more intimate setting that allows you to feel properly away from day-to-day life.

The atmosphere is relaxed, and it is easy to settle in quickly, which for us is a key part of the experience.

Best suited for: couples or guests looking for a quieter, more intimate escape.

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa

Low Wood Bay combines a beautiful setting with a strong outdoor spa experience.

It offers a balance of space and atmosphere, making it a great option for those who enjoy both structure and freedom within their day.

The Lake District setting adds to the feeling of being away, which plays a big role in helping you switch off.

Best suited for: those who enjoy a scenic setting with a mix of indoor and outdoor relaxation.

What These All Have in Common

Although these spas are very different, they share a few key qualities.

They allow you to relax without effort.
They feel considered rather than overwhelming.
And most importantly, they align with how you want to spend your time.

That alignment is what turns a good spa day into a great one.

A Final Thought

Choosing a spa is not about finding the most impressive option.
It is about finding the one that feels right for you.

Take your time, consider what helps you switch off, and use recommendations as a guide rather than a rule.

Because when you find the right fit, the experience becomes effortless.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these the best spas in the UK

No. These are simply spa experiences that have stood out to us personally. There are many excellent spas across the UK that may suit different preferences.

Why include a spa you haven’t visited yet

Because design, setting, and concept can still offer insight into the experience. Nàdarra Spa is a good example of a space that stands out even before visiting.

Should I choose a spa based on recommendations

Recommendations are helpful, but the most important factor is whether the spa suits how you like to relax.

Are smaller spas better than larger ones

Not necessarily. Some people prefer larger spas with more facilities, while others find smaller, more intimate spaces easier to relax in.

Is it worth travelling for a spa experience

For many people, yes. Being away from your usual environment can make it easier to switch off and fully relax.
